People v. Larry David Davis (Murder)
Death penalty sentence imposed on rapist and murderer Larry David Davis
In 1988, the defendant sexually assaulted a 27-year-old female at night in the Oxnard/Port Hueneme area. She escaped and called police, but the defendant got away before police arrived. A short time later, Davis saw Dawn Holman, 20, in front of a grocery store in Oxnard. He talked her into giving him a ride in her car. The next morning, Ms. Holman’s body was found on the San Buenaventura Golf Course. She had been sexually assaulted and strangled. Davis was tied to the murder by a variety of circumstantial evidence. DNA analysis later established to a certainty that the defendant had sexually assaulted Ms. Holman. Davis was convicted of first-degree murder with special circumstances and was sentenced to death.
