VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that Augustine Rincon Medina (DOB 07/18/65), of Oxnard, was sentenced by Judge Ryan Wright to four consecutive life sentences plus 145 years in prison for a countywide shooting rampage Medina committed on October 24, 2011.

Totten announced today that Perry Adam Lieber (DOB 04/23/86), of Santa Barbara, pled guilty to felony workers’ compensation fraud under Insurance Code section 1871.4(a), admitting a special allegation that the theft totaled more than $100,000 in losses to the victims.

VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that Omar Alan Tapia (DOB 11/17/92), of Oxnard, pled guilty to the voluntary manslaughter of Jesus Pizano, also from Oxnard. Tapia also admitted personally using a knife in the attack.

District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that Robert Zermeno Delara (DOB 8/13/1971), of Fillmore, was arrested and charged with insurance fraud for allegedly denying his injured employees health and disability benefits to which they were entitled and failing to notify his insurance carriers of industrial injuries sustained by his employees. Delara is the owner-operator of two farm-labor contracting businesses located in Ventura County, Pacific Coast Farm Labor and B&R Farm Labor. Through these businesses, Delara provides farm-labor and harvesting services to local agricultural producers who rely upon him to provide a skilled workforce while adhering to the safety and workplace injury reporting requirements of California law.

VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today the creation of the Ventura County District Attorney’s Courthouse Facility Dog Program. This program is designed to aid in the investigation and prosecution of crimes by providing crime victims and witnesses neutral support as they navigate the criminal justice system. Studies have shown that facility dogs provide both physical and emotional benefit to vulnerable victims, resulting in more accurate testimony in the judicial system. Courthouse facility dogs are currently used in 38 states and over 20 district attorney’s offices in California.
