VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that Christian Ornelas (DOB 12/27/85), of Oxnard, was sentenced to two years in state prison for distributing and possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM). On August 4, 2020, Ornelas pled guilty to one count of felony distribution of obscene child pornography and one count of felony possession of more than 600 images of child pornography.

Totten announced today that Give an Hour® has been awarded a contract and is partnering with the California Victim Compensation Board (CalVCB), the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, and the Ventura County Family Justice Center to offer support services to the victims of the October 2017 Las Vegas Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting who reside in Southern California. Founded in 2005, Give an Hour® is a national nonprofit that specializes in mental health and emotional wellness, and has extensive experience in providing recovery assistance after mass trauma events.

Totten announced today that Corey Evans (DOB 11/07/78), of Santa Clarita, pled guilty to two felony counts of attempted grand theft by false pretenses. The charges are the result of an investigation conducted by the District Attorney’s Real Estate Fraud Unit, acting on a referral from Ventura County Adult Protective Services.

District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that Mary Marlene Urias (DOB 10/01/63), of Oxnard, was sentenced to 7 years 4 months in state prison for embezzling over $100,000 from 5 Star Theatricals located in Thousand Oaks. In July 2020, Urias pled guilty to multiple felonies including grand theft, presenting false documentary evidence to a court, identity theft, and one count of unemployment insurance fraud. She was also sentenced for violating her probation terms on two prior embezzlement convictions.

Totten announced today that the District Attorney’s Office Consumer and Environmental Protection Unit obtained a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) today against BSF Fitness (BSF). BSF is gym located in the City of Ventura. The TRO orders BSF to comply with state and local health orders which currently prohibit indoor operations by gyms and fitness centers.

VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that Santa Paula Police Department Officer Matthew Arthur Alonzo (DOB: 09/28/79), of Ventura, was sentenced for committing auto insurance fraud. During the sentencing hearing, Alonzo’s felony conviction was reduced to a misdemeanor by the court, over the objection of the District Attorney’s Office. The court sentenced Alonzo to sixty days of work release and three years of probation. Alonzo was also ordered to pay restitution to Farmers Insurance Company in the amount of $1,564.

District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that Lenard Chester (DOB: 04-22-61), of Oxnard, was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole by Judge Ryan Wright. On June 22, 2020, Chester was convicted by jury of the first-degree murder of Leah Bullis, aged 81, of Oxnard, with the special circumstances that the murder was committed while in the commission of rape and burglary.
