VENTURA, California – Acting District Attorney Cheryl M. Temple announced today that Omar Alan Tapia (DOB 11/17/92), of Oxnard, was sentenced to 18 years in state prison for the death of Jesus Pizano, also from Oxnard. On December 4, 2020, Tapia pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter and admitted to personally using a knife during the incident.

VENTURA, California – Acting District Attorney Cheryl M. Temple announced today that Caden Crowell (DOB 11/19/98), of Camarillo, was sentenced by Judge Ryan Wright to 50 years to life in prison for the first-degree murder of David Smith, of Thousand Oaks. On July 14, 2020, Crowell pled guilty to the first-degree murder of Mr. Smith and admitted the special allegation that he personally used a firearm causing death.

VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that the review of the circumstances surrounding the November 7, 2018, shooting at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, California, by Ventura County Sheriff’s Sergeant Ronald Helus and California Highway Patrol Officer Todd Barrett has been completed.

VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that Sergio Ordonez (DOB 9/11/1988), of Ventura, was sentenced after he previously pled guilty to a felony violation of Insurance Code section 1871.4(a). Ordonez made a false and fraudulent material statement for the purpose of obtaining worker’s compensation benefits. Ordonez was placed on summary probation for two years and sentenced to serve 120 days in jail. Prior to sentencing, Ordonez paid full restitution of $26,190 to the victim in this case, Falls Lake Fire & Casualty Insurance Company (Falls Lake).

VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that on December 14, 2020, Judge Michelle Castillo sentenced Anthony Robert Ultreras (DOB 02/27/81), of Oxnard, to a determinate term of 14 years 8 months to life in state prison, to be followed by an indeterminate term of 50 years to life. Ultreras had been convicted by a jury of lewd acts on a child under 14 and child molesting with a prior. Ultreras had previously pled guilty to a charge of possession of child pornography stemming from the same incident. He also admitted a prior conviction from 2011 for lewd acts on a child under 14.

VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that Kristian Fonseca (DOB 10/07/98) of Fillmore, has been charged with the murder of Jose Estrada and Daniel Zuniga, both of Santa Paula. The complaint charges two counts of murder with a special allegation that Fonseca personally used a firearm in the commission of the crimes. Fonseca was also charged with one count of attempted murder with a special allegation that he personally used a firearm, for the shooting of Rafael Hernandez, of Santa Paula, in the same incident.

VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that Daniel Louis Fuller (DOB 2/19/84), a transient from Ventura, was sentenced to six years in state prison for the death of Jeffrey Kibler also of Ventura, which occurred on September 11, 2018. On October 29,2020, Fuller pled guilty to of involuntary manslaughter by an unlawful act.

VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that David Burgmeier (DOB 6/5/67), of Simi Valley, pled guilty to four counts of felony insurance fraud and four counts of felony unemployment insurance fraud on December 8, 2020.

VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that Augustine Rincon Medina (DOB 07/18/65), of Oxnard, was sentenced by Judge Ryan Wright to four consecutive life sentences plus 145 years in prison for a countywide shooting rampage Medina committed on October 24, 2011.
